Oh please, Sylar is a very, very one dimensional villain.

Agreed, what could have been a great character, they just f-up.

Ben Linus (the actual best villain on TV) would have had a f-ing hay day manipulating someone as stupid as Sylar.

Ok, you want to talk about one-dimensional villains? The only reason Ben Linus is still alive is because Lost writers have no idea what to do with him so they make other characters mentally handicapped, allowing him to live. The more I think about it, the central problem with Lost is Ben Linus. The show would be better off without him. He served a purpose, now they need to move on.

Season 1 Sawyer would have shot his arse a long time ago. And why didn't Sayid shoot him in the head, he's already killing a kid, might as well make sure.

You can make the point in not liking him, but Ben is not one dimensional. And how do they have "No idea what to do with him". Season 4 Ben was highly important to the show, and while he is a little less important this season, that doesn't mean they should kill him off. And Sawyer has only had one real opportunity to kill Ben, but it would have been stupid to kill Ben at that time due to the information he was withholding. And while Locke has had his moments with Ben, none of them were "what the hell are you thinking Locke?"

But Ben's purpose isn't finished yet. He may no longer be the central antagonist, but the war with Widmore (and whoever the hell those people from Flight 316 work for) will certainly be highly important for the final season of the show. They may not know what to do with him at this point in the season, but solely because next season seems to be the War for the Island, Ben will obviously be highly important during that plot next season.
