Randle the Tiger

During the recruiting process when it looked as though Randle would end up at Bama, it seems that most felt he would be the perfect compliment to Julio and have the same type of effect on the SEC this year as Julio and AJ Green had last year as freshman.
Since signing him, and recognizing he is not on campus yet, it seems that most Tiger fans feel that he will contribute but that the heavy lifting next year will be done by Tolliver and Lafell with RR in sparingly.
I think most agree that AJ Green and Julio are better receivers than either Tolliver or Lafell.
Why is it that when a player signs with LSU, such as Randle, we expect less out of him initially than if he had gone to a competitor or rival?

LaFell is going to be a beast this year.

First of all you said compliments, that means he wouldn't be better than them and secondly we are way deeper at WR than both those teams IMO

I think he has a shot at being the #3 or #4 receiver as a true freshman. That's a huge accomplishment given our depth at that position.

He compliments an All-SEC SOPHOMORE, meaning he wouldn't be better than a sophomore, but may be equal to them as freshmen.
Depth has nothing to do with it if a person is as good as billed. Julio would have been our best receiver last year, as would AJ Green.
No doubt Lafell will be a beast, but he is not the caliber of receiver or AJ or Julio, or by recruiting prognostications, RR.

Lafell is a 5th year senior who will be a first round pick. Toliver is a junior who will be a first round pick. What the frick is so confusing to you?

Again, my questoin is why is there a perception that a person will be more accomplished if they went elsewhere?
People were fearful that RR would kill us this year if he went to Bama, yet he comes to LSU and we think he will be the 3rd or 4th option at best. Furthermore, people claimed the entire recruiting process and since he was signed that he is equal to or better than JJ or Green, yet we don't expect him to make the same impact as they did. Why is this?
Depth is not an excuse. A freshman AJ Green or Julio would start for the 2009 LSU team.
Note: I am not trying to flame, just trying to understand the mentality here

Lafell is def better than green or jones right now.

That is debateable.

LSU's depth would play the same roll with them

The difference in Green and Jones playing as true freshmen and someone like Randle is that Bama and UGA had shite at receiver. Lafell is an all SEC type talent. Tolliver is gonna be a first rounder by the time he leaves. If RR comes in and contributes, great. But he doesn't have to for us to be successful.

Who expected Julio or AJ to perform as well as they did their freshman year?
I think you are confusing expectations with 20/20 hindsight.

Its just different situations....If Randle had been in last years class and went to Bama or UGA he would have put up huge numbers too, he's a great reciever.

guys he's right...lafell was only a 3-star i'd much rather have green or jones as our #1

It seems to me you have had a little to much recruiting hype; when Tolliver signed, he was a positional #1 as well. Randle was a final day commit so the hype was intensified. Both Green and Julio, walking on our campus today, would be competing for the #3, (outside shot at #2) same as anyone expects of Randle. Lafell would still be the absolute #1 and Tolliver would still be the firm #2.

The only thing I learned about LSU receivers last year is that they can't tackle worth a shite.
