can't be more proud of him. Harvard, Princeton and U of Penn for football and SUNY-Stony Brook and Presbyterian for La Crosse.

Congrats to him. If they only offered scholarships to play football.

the letters were just to express interest but it would be great if they offered a full ride. he plays for the only majority-black school to field a Lacrosse team in Atl.

Phew....based on your name, I thought Jarrett Lee was looking to follow Andrew Hatch to Harvard.
Sorry, I couldn't resist.

they don't give athletic scholarships, but it doesn't mean that the student-athletes are paying the full amount. They can still get financial aid and other types of scholarships.

Ivies don't give athletic or academic scholarships. All they can do it provide you with financial aid, which they determine from the FAFSA (college cost - EFC = aid you get). Now, sometimes with athletes they maximize the aid to make things more attractive.
Congrats to your nephew, by the way! Hopefully he comes visit UPenn! Franklin Field is a special place to play.

My brother wants him to take a good look at Penn because he is familiar with Philly and South Jersey. Nephew was born in South Jersey, but raised in NOLA, Dallas and Atl.

be honest, how many people on the recruiting board do you think have heard of Wharton and/or know that it is Penn's business school?

He must be a very good lacrosse player. Even though Presbyterian and Stony Brook aren't powerhouses, they are still D-1 programs, and very few kids from Atlanta, Miami, or Dallas end up even getting a glance from D-1 programs.
I don't know what percentage of kids that get recruiting letters from Ivy League schools end up getting offers (and by offers, I mean the tacit understanding that they will get in with their current GPA/SAT combo, as well as very good financial aid). One of my good friends got recruiting letters in soccer from San Diego, Dartmouth, Cornell, Duke, Brown, and the University of Chicago (this one confused the hell out of me
). He only ended up with concrete offers from Cornell and UChicago.
However, congrats to your nephew. The next 12 months should be a very exciting time for him. If he has the opportunity to play lacrosse or football at an Ivy League school, that will be a hell of an opportunity. If he plays his cards right, he can be set up for the next 10 years after graduation.

Ask the LSU track team...they own the place.
The Palestra ain't too shabby either and the Wharton School of Business totally rocks.
