I feel like a total idiot. I went to the movie when it came out and liked it. Two weeks later I read that it's Homer's Odyssey. I think "Oh yeah, I can see that." But then last night I watched it again for the first time since reading the article. Damn, the literary allusions are all over the place. How did I miss so many of them?

Everet (looking at the toad in the box): "I'm just not sure that's Pete..."

Delmar: "Of course it's Pete! LOOK at him!"

Definitely a fan of this movie, really enjoyed the take on the Odyssey and it's also the film that turned me on to bluegrass. Now I actually enjoy the genre quite a bit now.

Delmar O'Donnell: You work for the railroad, Grampa?
Blind Seer: I work for no man.
Delmar O'Donnell: Got a name, do you?
Blind Seer: I have no name.
Ulysses Everett McGill: Well, that right there may be the reason you've had difficulty findin' gainful employment. You see, in the mart of competitive commerce...

"I ain't recordin' a record you dumb cracker"

The actor who played Pappy O'Daniel was in the first wave on D-day as well in the front lines in the Battle of the Bulge. Prob not too many folks who could say that.

Did not know that about Durning. Interesting life.

He did not hit the big times until he was 50 with the Sting.

Once boxed at Madison Square Gardens on the same undercard as Jack Warden.
