How many of the mets players are earning their over paying contracts in terms of war?

The free agent cost per war is estimated to be around 8-9 million dollars per 1 war accrued. The Mets (worst winning % in all of baseball) have a ton of expensive free agents.

I only ask because Dom Smith earned his entire years contract in terms of war value with a single double the other night. Maybe AA knows what he is doing

Has he managed to raise his average above .125 yet?

Hes going to need to hit .400 with 30 HR to have a positive war value to overcome him being the worst defensive player in MLB

Lindor also has .1 WAR right now

He averages 5.8 over a 162 game span with his last 3 years as a met at 5.9 6.1 and 6.3

Now way dudes getting anywhere close to that level this season

For reference current War

Michael Harris .5
Dom Smith .5
Austin Riley .4
Acuna .2

He’s below Ronald and Acuna has been very bad

The Mets have had some really unlikable teams in the past. This one may be the absolute worst of them all.

Theyre like the dodgers if the person running the team had one too many chromosomes

Baseball is a finicky game, it’s hard to commit so much money to guys who can struggle at any time. You pay an NBA player 40 million a year and you know you will be getting an above average player. An expensive baseball player can pan out like Anthony Rendon.

Cases like Rendon are incredibly rare. You might get some variance where someone underperforms a bit but Rendon situations are so rare.

Like I just said Lindor has had near some of the highest war totals in baseball the past 3 years. He has by every measure be worthy of his contract. The Mets failure isnt in spending money, its in who they spent it on and neglecting that baseball isnt basketball and you cant just buy a few stars and expect to compete you have to fill out a full roster with depth down into AAA
