Tulsa murder case delayed nearly 9 years as death penalty trial looms

This is insane, our legal system is broken when it comes to stuff like this, there has been so much money and time spent over 9 years. Not advocating for against capital punishment, just that the process doesn't work.

Investigators say the victim, Kimberly Vo, barely had a single spot on her body without an injury, there was blood all over their apartment, and they found a hammer with blood and hair on it. Stith told police Vo went out with friends that night in 2017, then got jumped and robbed and came home that way.

A judge ruled in 2018 there was enough evidence for Stith to stand trial.

Since then,

Judge has ordered 3 different competency evaluations.
Stith has gone through 5 attorneys, and is now representing himself
Stith has filed 64 motions (most were asking to dismiss the case)
14 of the motions went to the appeals court
All of the attorney changes, motions, evaluations take time which causes more delays.

Tulsa County jail records show Stith has been under investigation for assault in jail several times, but each time the case was “closed due to a lack of cooperation from the victim.”
