Is anyone else a fan of this movie?
Gena Rowlands is great in this. I was surprised at how intense the first 15 minutes are.
I read that John Cassavetes wrote the script just to sell it and never intended to make the movie.

Pretty sure TCM has shown it a few times. I think that's where I've seen it.
There's kind of an updated version of Gloria out there called Proud Mary (2018). Stars Taraji P. Henson, as the Mary character.

They remade it in 1999 with Sharon Stone as Gloria.

Gena Rowlands and the kid are what sell this movie. That and the gritty realism of NYC at the time and the cinematography. Gena Rowlands is a badass bitch without sacrificing being a woman. The way she casually shoots the guy in the elevator while leaving the apartment in the end is what I remember the most when I watched this as a kid. She was great in it. As much as I like Sharon Stone I couldn't get through the remake. It stunk.
ETA: Also when watching this as a kid it threw me to see Buck Henry as a serious actor(the father of the kid) because I had only seen him on Saturday Night Live.
