Got a buddy who swears by using a sawzall and a long blade
I have not tried it yet.

Want to take out the roots and go down 18" to salt the ground to keep it spreading into my yard. I use a chain to cut it down but each year it gets thicker

Highly suggest adding a rhizome barrier. It was a game changer for me, eliminated them spreading into my yard from the neighbors.

I just rented and ran a 36" trencher yesterday to run a 650' water main. It handled just about everything I threw at it other than hitting concrete and pine stumps, which I had to go around.

Get a mini excavator and dispose of everything including the dirt, then backfill.
