He just came home from school with a long sad face. He thought he was going to be punished this weekend for running over the kid's foot. He told me the story again and it is the same one I got from the administrator. He's not physically injured in any way. The punch must have been minimal. Only, the kid apparently said some really mean things that weren't repeated to me on the phone. Of course it's all hearsay. According to my son, that kid told my son that at least he wasn't in a wheelchair and kids with muscular dystophy all die before they are 21.(This according to my son was relayed to the kids parents by administration) First of all I told my son that is absolutely not one bit true, which he knows and then I asked my son what was this kid's problem with him and he replied he doesn't know. I also asked him what the other kids were doing during this, he said just watching.

I told him that of course he's not punished, but I scolded him for using his chair and explained that he could really injure someone with that chair and to avoid that kid at all cost, because it seems like he has it in for my boy. I told him he should feel sorry for that kid because it's obvious that although he is not physically handicapped like you, there is something unseen that is really broken inside that kid.

Again, I know it is not because my son is an LSU fan, and he is a Bama fan, but something else is definitely wrong with that boy.

I was as shocked as most who replied about a kid striking another kid in a wheelchair. Never in a million years would I think that would happen.

That is so true...although your son is physically disabled, he is more whole than that kid. Give him a big hug from Tiger Nation tonight.

You know, I hate to sound like some touchy-feely "everybody's a victim" type, but I do have a twinge of pity for that kid. I don't know what kind of environment it takes to make a kid that broken (thank god!), but when you think about it that kid is headed for much, much worse than a beatdown. If he's this disturbed at age 11, I'd guess he's the one more in danger of not making it past 21.

And while I rationally know that beating his parents won't actually solve anything, I do sorely feel the visceral desire for whoever broke this little shite to suffer greatly.

Good Job, Tigerfan! You were spot on, and your son will get this. In my experience with working with adolescents and children, handicapped children often have the best social IQ. It will benefit him greatly in the immediacy and the future.
