My wife and I have made a trip to Baton Rouge to watch opening day LSU baseball every year for her birthday. This year her sister and niece are attending with us and we'd like to attend the Spanish Town Parade on Saturday.
Is there any recommended areas we should aim to watch the parade from ? Ive looked at the parade map but im pretty unfamiliar with Downtown BR.

Parking lot at the corner of Florida and River Rd. The parade rolls right by it. Get there early and claim a spot.

Anywhere downtown will be a good spot.
If you're looking for the pre, during, and after parties, the bars are on 3rd Street near Florida Blvd. Several will have outdoor stages with live music.
The only slightly sketchy areas would be on the East side of the parade route close to the interstate. Poor neighborhoods on that side tend to send in a rougher crowd.
If it's hot, Spanish Town road itself has a lot of shade trees, but it's a narrow street.
IMO, the easiest parking is around the State Capital building, the Governor's Mansion and Dept of Transportation. Plenty of free parking, and it's about a half mile walk to Spanish Town Road for the parade. (upper right side on the parking photo)
Anything marked with a "P" on this map is free public parking.

When I go to the Spanish Town Parade, I usually watch it from Spanish Town Boulevard. There’s an attorney’s office there with a porch where I like to stand. I watch from that spot because I want to see the parade right after it begins, instead of waiting for it to make its way farther down the route.

I second this. It's a low stress area to park and a pretty walk to the parade area. There will be tons of people there, also, so it's not sketchy in the least.
