Twelve people were arrested in Colbert County on Wednesday and are set to be deported, according to Colbert County Sheriff Eric Balentine.
Sheriff Balentine said they were arrested at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 28.
He said five Colbert County deputies are “Task Force Officers (TFO’s),” which means they completed training by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to be credentialed to arrest people who are undocumented immigrants.
They assisted with Wednesday’s arrests. It is unclear if the detainees will receive a separate hearing.
ICE agents are operating out of a facility in Etowah County, according to Sheriff Balentine. He said it’s referred to as the Etowah Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). The facility was an operational detention center in Gadsden, but it closed in 2022.
SFP does have a point. Come to states where they're welcome. Hell local LEO will do the work for them.
