This book was devistating read about THe hurricane that took place in Galveston Texas 1900. Its really well written and researched.
I enjoyed learning about this. But man it was a gripping read. It sums up the history of hurricane/storm tracking and how it originated in the US and how they spoke with other countries.
It was very good and recommend.

“A gripping account ... fascinating to its core, and all the more compelling for being true.” —The New York Times Book Review
September 8, 1900, began innocently in the seaside town of Galveston, Texas. Even Isaac Cline, resident meteorologist for the U.S. Weather Bureau failed to grasp the true meaning of the strange deep-sea swells and peculiar winds that greeted the city that morning. Mere hours later, Galveston found itself submerged in a monster hurricane that completely destroyed the town and killed over six thousand people—and Isaac Cline found himself the victim of a devastating personal tragedy.
Using Cline's own telegrams, letters, and reports, the testimony of scores of survivors, and our latest understanding of the science of hurricanes, Erik Larson builds a chronicle of one man's heroic struggle and fatal miscalculation in the face of a storm of unimaginable magnitude.

It's a really good book, and it's not even his best work. Erik Larson is one of my favorite non-fiction authors. Check out his other works if you haven't yet

I think about the nun/schoolteacher and the kids too often randomly from this book
If you’re interested, read Eric Jay Dolins “a furious sky; 500 years of hurricanes” I really enjoyed that book as well
Isaac only gets a couple of paragraphs .

Great book, and I agree that the last sentence will stick with you.
Check out Larson’s “Devil in the White City.” Just finished it and found it even better.

Yep.
I think about his brother and how he was spot on about the upcoming storm the night before.
