Are players really hurt more today, or is it just handled and shown differently? It sure seemed like there were less of these events in 80's and 90's (and even in 2000's).

I would say yes: because teams tell players to go down early now and broadcasts play it up more than they used to.

It seems like today’s NFL coaches and trainers want guys to stop at the first sign something is wrong. Is it softness? I don't know (I think yes but not just players but society across the board).

It has become medical protocol and now, concussion rules and of course: protecting careers and contracts. If a player looks shaky or feels a tweak he is coming out. In the 80s and 90s players just shook it off and kept going. Maybe you could say, a lot of careers paid for it later

And without a doubt, broadcasts trumpet injuries way more now. Announcers speculate and networks want to virtue signal that the league and by extension they take safety seriously. Back then the camera would cut away and you got a quick “he’ll be checked out” and that was it.

Anyways, I don't think injuries are worse than before. They are just handled faster and shown with more fanfare. Just my two cents.

There certainly were just as many, if not more, injuries. The difference is that players were both willing, and were allowed, to play injured in 1980s America.

I'm sure they'd be willing to play injured today, most of them anyways, but teams flinch at even minor injuries.

in the 70-80s, getting your "bell rung" and stumbling around was shown as high comedy by networks and in NFL Films highlights. Announcers would also acknowledge a camera mans relentless efforts to seek out hot chicks in the stands with a suggestive comment. In the days of C-band satellite dish's the size of an Apollo capsule, the feed didn't cut away for commercials and the shite you would hear on a hot mike was solid gold.

We used to be a proper country.

That BlockBuster trade between Green Bay and Dallas, Dallas came out ahead on that one.

Greenbay just crippled their franchise.

I don't doubt this. Players are always a different breed especially from the shitty fans of today

That trade seemed to be a no brainer at the time to me and all my friends that Dallas won but every single analyst talked about how GB got a steal and how dumb JJ was making the trade..hmmm
