Faking it 4th down to get D to jump

Started noticing teams do this every game the last couple years. Was it always like this before or is it a newer trend?

Nothing new - if you get them to bite you get a free first down. If not you can either snap the ball late and try to get a head start, or take the delay of game and punt.

It's always been a thing but it seems to be more common to me in recent years. No reason not to try it and it does work sometimes. I really like it when teams fake the fake and actually run a play.
