DSHS Yellow Jackets- 2009 Playoff bracket

Well Friday night, the Denham Springs High School Lady Jackets continued their basketball dynasty by adding a 25th District Championship trophy to the trophy case. This year's Yellow Jacket team is one of the most complete teams to don the purple and gold since the 1996 State Championship team. With the playoff brackets coming out tommorow, DSHS anxiously awaits to find out who they will face in the Grady Hornsby Gym on Friday night. As the 2009 state playoffs begin this week, so does the quest to bring another State Championship home to reside in Denham Springs. Go Jackets.

Are they going to have to come up to Shreveport again to play the Lady Cowboys of Southwood. If so the same will happen. That game was a joke. The yellow jackets were run out of there by halftime.

Steve i'm not gonna disagree with you buddy. If we have to go up to Southwood again like last year, we are gonna get beat just like last year. I went to that game along with about 300 of us and I will hand it to Southwood, they are one heck of a basketball team and I think they are almost unbeatable on their home court. We're just hoping that they are not on our side of the bracket.

Hey Tino, it's nice to know I got someone else here from Denham to have my back. Bucktown in the house, ya heard. What you think about the team this year?

And Lsu7171, I respect your opinion, but we'll see what happens. And don't say that this team isn't hungry, etc. you have no basis on which to say that. The fact that they joke around and laugh is great. They enjoy playing the game and they love playing with each other. You gotta love seeing a team play like that. You said, " Not gonna happen." Thats fine man, it's all good. We will see what happens.

I was there for the Tasmin years. We had that gym rocking for the epic battles with Woodlawn

i got your back too, born and raised there. I had no idea though that the girls' squad was good. All I remember about their athletics from 89-94 is how awful every team was.

just my opinion.i hope i am wrong.

What kind of a football team does Denham have coming back?

Hey, I'm sorry LSU7171, didn't know you were an alum. I'm glad to know there's someone else on here that is from Denham. As far as the team goes, I think what side of the bracket we're on is gonna mean everything. If we have to go play Southwood, etc. I think we'll get beat. The thing that impresses me about this year's team is how deep they are. They have a number of players that can rotate in and give good solid minutes, more so than other DS team of the past couple of years.
Hey Charlotte, good to hear your from Denham. I'll keep you updated on the playoff run.
And Rocker, let's talk some football. Denham Springs lost alot of seniors from their district champion team, including all state running back John Simon. However, on the defensive side of the ball we have two all district linebackers coming back. Also, we will have a brand new quarterback this season, which is very good. We got a big sophmore with a huge arm that has the potential to be the first solid quarterback that Denham has had in years. I think that making the playoffs and winning district was huge last season. Although, we lost some good players, that experience from last season should go a long way. The most important thing is that these players learned how to win last season, which I think will payoff this coming season.

No doubt Denham head football coach deserves congrats for making Denham Springs football so popular again.
Has it been decided which district and what teams will be in Denham's district this upcoming season?

I haven't heard anything about hammond and ponch; there has been alot of speculation as to who will join our district. Alot of people around here seem to think that Zachary and Live Oak are gonna move up and join our district with Central and Walker.
Yesterday I read an article on the computer stating that there's a chance Dutchtown and East St. John will join. Dutchtown was in our district two years ago, but East St. John seems like a stretch.

I haven't really kept up with the Bball teams this year. I was able to catch a few football game last fall. Last DSHS boys basketball game I've been to was the 05' quarterfinal game at Airline.

The other BR 5-A district (I'm hearing) would be Zachary, Scotlandville, Catholic, St. Amant, EA, and Dutchtown. I guess it depends on Hammond/Ponchy getting moved out of their traditional district and the Gonzales area schools.

Yea man I remember that game, the last game Tasmin played for us. It was a heartbreaker man. I always hoped we would win State before Tasmin graduated, but they could just never quite get over the hump.
