"Based on actual events. And terrible decisions."
I enjoyed it. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison for holding up 45 different fastfood restraurants. He was purported to be nice, even giiving jackets to those he locked in the freezer, before escaping and calling the cops.He escapes from prison and survives, for months, in the middle of a Toys R' Us store. Channing Tatum is humorous, playing real-life criminal Jeffery Manchester.
If you live near Charlotte, NC you recognize his story.
This guy was so crafty, with his military background, you would have thought he would have gone in to law enforcement.

Solid movie, and just a crazy real life story

I enjoyed it, but they should have focused on the robberies a little more and not so much on the love story

Tatum was off all the gas for this movie. Looked sick.

I wonder how true all of this is? If he really got away with all that shite while on the run hiding out in a toys r us at night, going to church, the gf house, the pawn shop, etc. he pulled off the big heist, got his fake passport, was otw to airport and he blew it by going to see the gf one last time? fricking idiot! I’m sure they embellished a little but nothing seemed too hard to believe.

Yeah it was obvious a set up too when Leigh didn't mention the robbery at all in the phone. He should have listened to his friend hed be in Venuzuela.

I watched it a couple of days ago, and wondered the same. I didn't find anything about the friend passport stuff but

All of that was true. The movie doesn't even show all of the Toys R Us stuff. In the movie, it's almost unintentional, but that was his target and he thought what better place to case the job than from inside it. He eventually tunneled into a vacant circuit city next door and had a full on apartment with running water. The baby monitor setup was real. Even the Spiderman sheets.
I don't think the gf worked there, they apparently met at the singles event through the church. He did alter employee and security schedules to fit his heist plan.
There is an extended version of the interview with the gf where she says a lot of what Dunst says when she visits him at the end. The real life Leigh is in the movie. She's a crossing guard.
The truck driver in the prison break is the real truck driver. The guy that works the pawn shop is the real pastor. The lady at the singles event that plays the retired cop was the original arresting officer. One of the cops that is checking out his nest behind the bike rack is the arresting swat officer.
Great movie. It gets you emotionally invested hoping for a good outcome even though you know the bubble is gonna burst at some point. Tatum is fantastic. Peter Dinklage plays a great dickhead boss, too.
ETA: he also did burn down the dentist office

When I finished it, my first thought was I would have enjoyed more roof and less RomCom, but it was still good. It was a local story for me so kinda cool to see it in movie form.
