I was considering that one as well, but that team added a few more losses as well. But, if you want to play that game...the best five seasons!

Not trying to internet goalie you and I'm no historian. How did we spoil 1962?

I would like to use this against some Ole MIss guys but I like to check my work. They beat us in 62.

That should be 1961, not 1962. Ole Miss was literally unbeatable coming into Tiger Stadium in 1961-- 6-0 and ranked #1; they steamrolled six straight opponents.

Also we need to mention Ole Miss in 1960: A 1-4 LSU team came into OXFORD on the afternoon of October 29, 1960, and after 59:55 of playing time, the Tigers had a 6-3 lead! A final play FG gave the Rebs their Mexican standoff-- 6-6 tie. That Rebel team finished 10-0-1 after a 14-6 win over Rice in the Sugar Bowl. LSU alone kept the Rebels out of the top spot three years in a row: 1959, 1960, and 1961.

Yep. That 1961 year gets blocked in my head. I am 38 and obviously wasn't alive, but losing 16-3 to Rice and then going 11-1 is wild to me.

The only real time Ole Miss killed LSU was 1969. We go 9-1 and don't make a bowl game (ND went to a bowl game breakign their precedence). 26-23 loss to Archie.

For whatever reason LSU almost always played Ole Miss at home back in those days. 1958, 1959, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964.... all in Tiger Stadium! 1960 was the only road contest with the Rebels over seven seasons.

Older folks would have to confirm this, but I was told UM wanted the games in BR and Jackson to generate more money. They agreed in odd years to split the gate money in BR games and then Jackson was their home away from home. Without looking it up, I think LSU only played in Oxford a couple times in a 50 year stretch.
