Is the head coach position losing its value?

Definitely not in the pockets but on the field it seems so to me. CFB is becoming a coordinator driven game. I know the HC makes the tough decisions, essentially installs their system and builds the culture but in the world of NIL mercenaries does that matter the same as it did in 2002?

I mean we just won a ring with a decent HC and two top notch coordinators..I think we're overpaying these HCs

The old school type of head coach is absolutely losing value. A La Saban... he saw the writing on the wall and gracefully stepped out.

But the facts are, if kids aren't going to stay with a program and develop, then "The System" Saban had goes out the window.


This is why BK never should have been given the contract he was. Hes an old school coach, not optimized for the NIL world. He can coach in the NIL era, at a mediocre level.
