First time im heading to Brazil. Looking for a Penthouse with a pool near either Copacabana or Ipanema. Also any restaurants or bars that should be visited? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Sofitel hotel is right on the beach and is right in the middle of everything. Suggest you stay there, I traveled back-and-forth to Rio de Janeiro for work (over a period of 9 months) and that was by far my favorite hotel (but back then it was called Cesar Park).

They have a rooftop restaurant which has amazing breakfast and amazing views.

Loads of awesome restaurants and bars in Leblon... just walk around... it is by far the safest area of town.

Check out the hippie fair on Sundays in Ipanema, buy yourself some Havaianas flip-flops and eat some feijoada… it is their version of red beans and rice and it is fricking delicious

Eye candy galore down there...no way to describe it, just gotta experience it.

That hotel is shut down. Looks like they sold it and its undergoing a renovation.

Beautiful neighborhood with tree-lined streets and, yes, safest neighborhood in RJ.

OP, don't skip Botafogo if you're looking to hit a couple spots to drink - Quartinho is a fantastic cocktail bar and Hocus Pocus does very solid hazy IPAs.

Sunrise over Copacabana and sunset over Ipanema is incredible.

RJ comes alive at night. Hell of a place. Goes without saying you need to keep a sharp eye out. On the upside, I'm on the young-ish side and mixed, so my skin is darker complexion. Wasn't bothered much except by one guy who was just a homeless American

Hit up Boa Praca in Leblon. Great spot for drinks, music and people watching.

I stayed at the Ritz in Leblon (boutique hotel, not the chain) which was next door to bar I mention above. We kicked off every afternoon there with a Beck’s beer then walked to restaurants each evening.

For restaurant suggestion, highly recommend Rainha. After dinner, there’s a bar across the street and it gets very lively. Plenty of “sights” to take in.
