'Today's Congressional Hearing on the Banks - The 'Joe Pesci' Moment

Ackerman and Sherman were their usual feisty selves, with Sherman doing a nice job of nailing the facts down.

But for sheer catharsis the five minute statement by Michael E. Capuano(D-Mass) was the hands down winner.

I almost dropped my coffee when he said he could not believe they weren't already under indictment, or words to that effect, for their action in SIVs.

When Oliver Stone makes the movie the obvious casting choice is Joe Pesci.'

Thanks Jesse for the laugh.

LSURussian, igoringa, or Poodlebrain can correct my if I'm wrong, but I'm almost positive SIV/SPV/VIE/QSPE's (or what ever other term you want to use) are supposed to be brought back onto the F/S next year.

about time. Citi being allowed to keep anywhere from tens of billions to nearly a trillion dollars OFF the books, reidiculous.

my favorite was one of the banks, wamu or wach, declaring it was worth nearly 50 billion dollars than nearly a week later selling for 14 billion. no prosecution for filing false statements.

I mean, the whole point of the SPV is that its something not wholly owned by the company to begin with. In the case of Wachovia and/or Citi, they were forced to by the other investors in the spvs in question. It's really not cut and dry like that, they're contingent liabilities at best.

It looks like these clowns have taken a page from Enron's operation. Isn't it about time for some banker indictments?

The courts are anxious to throw guys/girls in jail for having half a hooter in the ashtray but they don't prosecute bankers and government regulators that screwed up the world economy?

I want to see some of those aholes in jail!...a real jail, not some country club jail! During the GD after trials some of the bankers/brokers/trust managers were sent to Sing Sing. That will work for me.

I am on half time break from the UConn Syracuse game. That guy Thabeet (?sp) is some kind of center...and, this is not the best game I have seen him play. What happened to our B ball program?
