If Kiffin is hired today - would he coach the last game and bowl game himself?

I would want to if I were him to really get a personal feel for the players and their reaction to my style of coaching and hope he does.

That said, it's a higher risk/higher return situation so safe play is to observe and advise current staff from the box.

Either way hope it works out

No, if and a big if he is hired today. His focus will be recruiting and assembling a staff.

Not only would he not coach in any of the last few games, he will have 0 input on personnel, game plans, or any decision making by Wilson at all.

This...and I doubt it ever will! Too many logistics needed before an outside coach could just jump in and coach a team with the prior coaches' assistants. He would basically do like Brian Kelly and watch from stands or press box...

If he is hired he would not coach the last game or the bowl game.

Incoming coaches don’t typically interfere with the outgoing coaching staff because realistically most of them won’t be retained.

What he may do is attend bowl practices and be hands off and observe. He may help in behind the scenes planning with coaches but would let them coach.

You think he coaches Ole Miss if he's hired by LSU today?

He’s not accepting any offers until after Ole Miss finishes their season.

That’s not exactly true. He definitely wouldn’t coach the OU or bowl game. But he will definitely be around to observe the coaches and players during bowl prep. From afar, but still present. And if he determines there are guys without a place here in the future, he might suggest they get less playing time in the bowl than than some younger guys he likes and wants to see in game action. I’m thinking WRs like Parker or even Billiot.

He won’t demand it, and he’d suggest it to Verge, not Frank, if he does at all. I’m not saying he will offer any input at all, just that if he does, with the power we’re giving him, it would be taken under serious advisement. But not mandated. He knows this is not his team until after the bowl.

Like BK was apparently very present at bowl practices. And there’s zero chance he didn’t weigh in on Nuss not playing to preserve his redshirt. (People shite on Nuss still for that, but I’ll never be convinced that was his call not to play. That was a decision made by his dad and BK).

BUT, a lot has changed in the short time since BK was hired. Bowl games don’t count against redshirts, so the new coach, whoever it is, won’t have to worry about that. And with the new schedule, he’ll be much more focused on getting a staff in place and evaluating incoming recruits and potential portal additions, and figuring out who he wants/needs to try to bring from his previous school. He won’t have as much time to observe bowl practices.

But he’ll have to some to help determine where he’ll need portal help, holes to fill to fit his system. And the portal opens on January 2nd, I believe. So if we play our bowl on December 31st or New Years’ Day, I don’t think it’s that far fetched for him to mention to Verge, “hey, most of these WRs are gone next year, what about that Billiot kid? He looks great in practice. It’d be nice to see how he plays in a live game situation with 10-12 snaps and a couple of targets.” And that get relayed to Frank. Frank loves his players and wants to win the game for them and because it goes on his record, so I don’t think he’d do anything to to jeopardize that. But he’d find a way to balance it where he appeases what he hopes will be his new boss while still doing whatever it takes to win. Teams do that in bowl games anyway. We see a lot of younger guys get more PT than they were in the regular season. A lot of that is due to opt outs, though. So some of that may take care of itself anyway.

if i'm Ole Miss, i'm not letting him back in the building... for what? he's not going to be 100% focused, he's got a foot out the door already, and will be concerned about setting up his new job... plus, it would be stupid to have a now opposing teams HC still around your players, possibly poaching talent for his new team...

no, if he chooses LSU, they likely would not have him back at Ole Miss immediately, regardless of the playoffs, which they don't stand a chance in anyway
