Does anyone have any personal experience with the 227 Sportsman boats? I currently have an older 22 pathfinder but its getting old and I want something that can handle the chop a little better since 80% of the days i fish its blowing 15mph. In my price range, it would be a 2014-2017 model year. The Sportsman is a heavier hull with a deeper vee. Of course longer is better, but i think i will stay in the 22ft range and the Sportsman has my attention.

No first hand experience but those Sportsman’s sure are beautiful boats.

If I was looking for a 22’ bay right now I’d be looking at the sportsman, or the Robalo 226 cayman.

Id also look at older skeeters, tritons, etc.

Keeping the boat the same size is not going to make a noticeable difference in a chop.

False. I have a 20 foot Mako with a deep V and I also have a 22 foot pathfinder like the OP. The Mako will handle a chop way better than the Pathfinder and it’s 2 feet shorter. On a day where it’s going to be snotty. I will take my Mako out over the Pathfinder 10 out of 10 times

Ok… I should have said similar hull design and weight will not make a huge difference. Obviously going with a deep V is going to change things.

I have a sportsman 247 masters. I love the way it handles rough water!

Neighbor had one, great ride, layout (very accessible), fit/finish great (for a production boat), have heard company is responsive to problems.

Thanks for the input MB. Especially since you have the same boat.

The 247 sportsman is a beast of a boat , but it’s just a really big 24ft and they are an extra 20k.

The Sportsman is 1000 pounds heavier than my current pathfinder and has a very aggressive entry, but still has that bay boat feel and layout. Those are the reasons I’m looking at the sportsman.

I have a 2015 227 sportsman masters
And it’s the best riding 22 foot bay boat I have ever been in and I have been in a lot of other models
Can not recommend this boat enough
By far the best boat I have ever owned
Only problems I have seen was the toggle switch’s needed replacement and when you wash the boat I get little water in rod boxes but there are drains

Thanks for the reply.

My big hangup is cooler space. There is only room for one cooler under the leaning post. Where do you put the drinks or fish at?

I put a cooler for the fish under the seat
And use the left live well as a drink and food cooler
That leaves me with the right live well and the front console live well open
I fish 99% artificial baits so live well room is not a issue
But when i go offshore i do have live bait in right live well and it is plenty room
The console live well is my trash can basically

Had a 2016 Sportsman 227, solid boat, well thought out. Have had couple others in between and now have a 247, which feels like a whole lot more boat than simply 2-2.5 ft difference in length. Its good bit heavier for sure.

Really can't go wrong with that 227 though, good luck.
