$15000 Homebuyer Credit Question?

I hate to start this thread because there seem to be about 8 of them already.
Anyway, I plan to close later this month. If the new package is approved, would the plan be retroactive to the start of 2009 or the day it was enacted? I've seen both answers on several sites and I'm not sure who is correct.

I've seen both answers at various sites too. But I think it looks more like it will include all of 2009. Of course, we'll have to wait a week to find out for certain.

Until when? Next Monday?

well, chances are the language will not be clear so the IRS will likely need to clarify it. Could be a couple of days or a couple of weeks

instead of starting a new thread, I will just ask here:
my wife and I bought our first house a few years back.... except, its fully in my name...so, if our next house is only in her name, can we get "first time homebuyer benefits" ?

Latest draft has changed. The latest and greatest is:
DATE OF PURCHASE: After the date of enactment.
I inadvertently had said earlier today is was Jan 1 (an earlier draft had that).. but I pulled down the ammendment of Thomas and that is the date given.
Again until it gets out of committee nothing is in stone

So the house has to be purchased AFTER it's officially signed off on to get the $15K?

When will this be? Any idea?

Interesting.
So do you think it's going to go through at this point?
I'm still wondering how the e-file shite will work if it does go through...

Really depends if he can get Pelosi and the House to tow the line... if they 'compromise' that will be high on the list... tough call

So a week from today we will know something definite right?

That would be a safe bet... (well as safe as you can get with the loonybin that is the Hill)

Opinions on how they will coordinate everything with e-filing?

I'm not freaking out about efiling. If it isn't available to claim by April 15th, just file an extension or do an amended return whenever you are able to.
