Woodward's Lazy approach is the issue

His willingness to spend money without restraint and guarantee massive amounts is largely driven by the desire to secure a big name, rather than investing the effort to hire the best fit.
The fact that he acquired Jay Johnson and Mulkey is great, but he paid Mulkey a substantial amount of money for a sport that was already losing money and is now losing even more. Johnson is really his only home run hire and was a coach with fire in his belly to prove himself.
In basketball, he took the coward's way out, unlike numerous other schools, and not only fired the best coach LSU had in MBB in two decades, but also locked them into a horrid coach with the absurd McMahon contract because of it. McMahon was the wrong choice mostly because of the contract he was given, and once again, LSU will have to pay a hefty price for him to be replaced and then has lost multiple years in the sport because of it.
Now, the biggest issue with Kelly was his contract and the massive guarantee. The same issue with Jimbo at A&M was present in his original contract, which Woody provided to him. Kelly, with an incentive to improve the team, may have been a good-to-great fit. Kelly, with no incentive, was a disaster, especially after asking fans to pay even more money to buy him a team.
Woodward hired Kelly after being left at the altar by Riley when he went to USC. Much of how Alleva went with hiring O after being jilted by Tom Herman. The difference is that Alleva gave O a reasonable initial contract, which Woody then stupidly inflated after the NC in 2019.
Woody is a lazy politician that has no problem wasting other people's money. That is why he sucks even if his hires hit once in a while.

Yeah, and the Gov on every college football show spewing how the AD is not going to hire the next football coach is really making the school look good, huh? Really a good look for LSU!

I am referencing how Lazy got this point to fire Kelly and have to pay this buyout. There is no one to blame other than Woodward. He is lazy and doesn’t care since it’s not his money.

He also locked us into Beth Torina's extension.

Why would a Lameduck AD that the boosters don’t trust to make a decision choose another HC??

Woody didn’t do his due diligence on Kelly. Either that or he was completely fooled by him. Kelly did not come here prepared to work hard. He took a vacation on the bye week after losing to Vandy. You had the #3 team in the nation coming in 2 weeks and you were taking it easy. This isn’t a civil service job.

You blame Kelly. Woodward isnt the HC of the football team. Kelly was a worthless POS that f'ed over Woodward ,the BoS, and the Money. Throwing rocks in glass houses doesn't make any sense going forward if LSU does the right thing and pulls together a non partisan search committee to make recommendations in the hiring process

I don't care who makes the decision, as long as it is done the right way and not like a Three Stooges episode!

Well that’s what it takes to lure big name proven coaches from other big programs. If you want to have the best chance of winning, it takes money to get the best coaches. I don’t know why this is suddenly so confusing. That the football coach didn’t work out while the baseball and WBB coaches did is just the way things go sometimes. Most football coaches don’t work out.
