Coaches need to earn their salary (like most of us)

BK shoulda been guaranteed (X) amount per win. Let’s call it a million. I bet his butt wouldn’t be golfing so much.

Even call it $1.5, would be worth it

Yes, but he wouldn't be here if we didn't give him the contract and terms that we did, and neither would any other worthwhile candidate.
Sports agents know that universities are desperate to win and have them by the balls, and until that changes, people need to get with reality and quit bitching about what a coach is making.

Agree. The whole 10 year contract deal is brutal. Don’t see it changing, just an idea.

I bet AD's / universities would love to see it the buyout system go away and largely be an incentive-based scale as well, but the 10 year contract is part of the deal. He probably wasn't signing for 5 years, because he could've gotten 10 years, or close to it, somewhere else.
Maybe this recent round of firings will change things with the next big hires, but that was nature the market at the time.

Could you imagine me being called in to the bosses office
“David, we don’t like what you’re doing here. Take your $60 million and get the hell out of here.“

You don’t know the bare minimum I would do at work if I were guaranteed my next 6 years salary regardless of what I do. Especially with the thought that if they let me go they are required to pay me the remainder. These contracts are zero benefit to the athletic program.

Why not go cheaper on the coach and use the difference in money to boost NIL every year to get better players?

1) Going cheap on a less-qualified coach could actually be a true disaster regardless of the talent of the team
2) Paying more to players doesn't guarantee anything either, especially being led by a budget coaching staff. They're college kids at the end of the day and are probably even more prone to become complacent after a big payday than mature adult coaches are... See A&M anytime in modern CFB history, Ole Miss last year, and Texas this year
3) We pay the price for top-tier coach qualifications because we are one of the best programs in the country in LSU, and not ULL, La Tech, etc.
