Lyon in Early December - Festival of Lights

Heading to Lyon for the 1st time to visit daughter who is there for a college semester. Planning to stay a week with day trips to Annecy, Dijon, Grenoble. Any other regional suggestions for tourism? Not going to ski on this trip. Any can't miss restaurants in Lyon? Keep hearing that it is a foodie paradise if you like classic French cuisine. Want to get a couple of really great dinners in the trip. Otherwise, I'm a street food, dive joint kind of traveler. Staying in the central city on the peninsula between the rivers. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. This board is my 1st stop for travel info and has done me right in the past!

Lyon is considered the gastronomic heart of France. But probably like 20 other French cities would disagree. Great city. It is the heart of nouvelle cuisine and old school bouchons. Paul Bocuse (rip) has a few places there. But check out the bouchons as well - think working class bistros.
That whole area is incredible. Was in Macon area this summer may consider renting a car and cruising through the town of Beaujolais and into Dijon or Beaune. Imagine a more agrarian and laid back Sonoma.
