Amkor Technology (NASDAQ:AMKR) shares rose nearly 8% in premarket trading as Apple (AAPL) CEO Tim Cook said the semiconductor packaging firm will help the iPhone maker with its packaging and reshoring plans.
“And then, you know, it goes to GlobalWafers, a company that’s in Texas, and they will serve companies like TSMC (TSM), which will do that, provide the Fab for the product, for the chips, and then Amkor, another company that’s located in Arizona, will do packaging,” Cook said in an interview on CNBC's Mad Money. “And of course, Applied Materials (AMAT) is very key to the semiconductor equipment. And so we’re, we’re we’re looking at the end to end bringing that to America.”
Earlier this month, Amkor Technology priced $500M worth of 5.875% senior notes due 2033.

Apple Inc. plans to invest in Amkor Technology Inc.'s proposed semiconductor packaging plant in Peoria, marking the facility's first customer ahead of its groundbreaking later this year
The announcement was part of a $100 billion investment in domestic manufacturing by the tech giant, which faces pressure from President Donald Trump to shift its supply chain to home soil.
The company said the investment — part of what it calls its "American Manufacturing Program" — is intended to strengthen U.S. manufacturing of critical electronics components. Its leaders are also hoping the program will incentivize global companies to bring manufacturing operations stateside.

AAPL $100 billion investment
IF it was like the last time they promised 350 billion dollar investment
quote:
The investment plan included Apple's repatriation of approximately $250 billion in overseas cash, a major component of the 2017 tax bill.
Supposedly they were going to spend 1B on an Austin campus, but later revised it down to about 250 million. Total costs peg it to be around $400 million now and it was supposed to be finished this year
