What’s the best way to do this? Get it custom built or buy a kit online for 5-7k?
Wood or Aluminum?
Are there any reputable pergola companies near the Nola area or north shore?

We purchased one from Costco had a contractor build a deck and built/anchored the pergola to the deck. In stalled a tv with a center post he built from deck and enough room in the corner of the pergola to mount a fan

Depends if it’s your forever home for now. I’d 100% splurge if so, life is short so make your space comfortable place that you enjoy.
That said, if it’s just a basic backyard, detached area you’re doing, a prefabbed would be nice if you can incorporate some hard scape and a couple other custom elements.
Either way, if you’re not handy, you’ll need an electrician and someone to put it together for you. Perhaps reach out to a smaller construction company and get a bid or two. You’ll need an open space in your panel for a circuit and a couple other things you might not be thinking about.
If you can’t find anyone, swing buy your local lumber yard with an inspiration pic and ask if they could recommend a guy to do this for you. You’ll get a couple contacts there.
Good luck and keep us posted.
