I cut up a branch about 8 inches in diameter of pecan wood that fell from my pecan tree in a storm. Can I use all of it or just the heart wood for smoking ?

Let dry good. Not green, needs to be seasoned. Split and use it.

Neighbor had a pecan tree that died and a huge limb fell in the park next to his house. Cut it up in pieces and let it dry for 6 months. It's ready now.

To answer your question,

I’ve used every bit of a tree for smoking.

I used twigs from an apple tree.
Heartwood.
Branches.

Etc.

That’s exactly what I use to smoke sausage every February. Just gather up what the pecan trees drop throughout the year.

I like to use pecan with any type of oak to smoke meats, etc. My personal favorite combo. Luckily I have both in my yard so plenty of wood to smoke with.
