VANCOUVER, British Columbia (WKRC/CBC/CNN Newsource) — A man can now see again after undergoing tooth-in-eye surgery.

Brent Chapman, a Canadian man who lost his sight more than two decades ago, can see again thanks to a groundbreaking surgery that uses a patient's own tooth to restore vision.

After going blind at the age of 13, Chapman has undergone approximately 50 procedures in an attempt to regain his vision.

This two-part surgery, developed in the 1960s, is considered a last resort for individuals with severe corneal blindness. It involves removing a patient's tooth, inserting a plastic lens into it and then stitching the assembly into the patient's eye socket.
