Transducer working about 50% of the time.

My transducer decides it only wants to work about half of the time. It seems to not work almost every time I go into shallow water (of course when I need it the most). I checked for loose connections and cant find any. Anyone have any idea what is going on here?

Assuming the wiring is good...
Depending on where the transducer is mounted it may well be right on the bottom. Does this happen while hauling arse, while trolling, or both? Where's the transducer mounted? What frequency are you set to?

It’s got the ability to change angles if not really tightened at the neck. I assume it’s on bottom of trolling motor. That’s the easy first check.

Mine does this too. If it goes too shallow it starts blinking and doesn't come back on for a few minutes.

is it new or did it just all the sudden start doing it?
I have found that sometimes they just go bad over time. It is just a coil and eventually gets small shorts in it
Also, I have found with it losing the bottom at times could be a setting that got changed. Id recommend doing a reset to factory setting for your unit and start from there. Helps a lot of units that lose the bottom

My boat is 9 years old and this year I’ve installed my 3rd transducer. I’ve never had them go out like this but it is electronic so it happens. The first two would lose bottom (3 dashes) randomly then catch bottom then on then off. Didn’t matter water depth or anything else. Before this started they worked 100% of the time - stationary, idle and WOT.
My first two were cheap basic lowrance transducers. The new one is a 3-1 sidescan/downscan so hopefully it lasts longer.
Make sure you have 100% power shut off via perko switch. It if is pinging on cement it can damage them - so I’ve heard.
