Should the SWAC Get to go to the NCAA Tournament

Seriously, a SWAC team will NEVER beat a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. It is just not going to happen. Is this fair to send a team that had absolutely no chance to win to go play a powerhouse?
If you played on a SWAC team that went to the tournament, would you take pride in knowing you are about to go get waxed (its not even close games) in front of the nation?

Yes, that is the whole point of working to be a #1 seed. All of the conferences should get their bye in as they do right now.
Yes, it give you a reason to take compete and win your conference knowing you could make the tournament.

Do most of the 16's have a shot to beat a 1? It hasn't happened yet. That being said, the SWAC usually gets stuck in the play-in game, so it really doesn't matter. But yeah, they deserve a shot. I do believe, however, the auto bid should go to the regular season conference champions in these smaller conferences instead of the conf tourney champs.

Schools hang banners for just getting into the tourney.

Football teams pride themselves on making shitty bowl games, its no different for basketball.
Years from now, those guys can tell their kids/grandkids they played against Tyler Hansbourgh (just an example) in the NCAA tournament.

Yes but at least most bowl games are pretty evenly matched.

Its hard to compare football bowls to the NCAA tournament, but if you do then it is fair to ask this.
Would you match Florida up with Southern in a bowl game?

quote:You can't compare the two. Apples and oranges. I don't understand how this is even a question GCS. What competitor wouldn't want to make it to the playoffs? The tourney is the playoff system to decide the NC. Why wouldn't anyone want to make it in???? This is a dumb topic.

Of course not, but thats not the point. The point is these guys pride themselves on making that game, much like the bowl games.

we won't know if they get killed by a 1 seed until THEY ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME
what a foreign concept

I understand this, but the fact is a SWAC school does not have the resources, talent, etc to even compete with a North Carolina, WF, Duke, etc.

Thats the point. Thats why they are playing a #16 seed. Its a reward for being #1.
