Ideapad vs Thinkpad

I have used a Lenovo Thinkpad x1 carbon for a decade plus (through various iterations). However I am looking to move to a larger screen laptop and the ideapad has a much better price:specs ratio especially at the larger screen sizes.
I know Thinkpad are best-in-class build quality and that's what you're paying for but what does that really mean? Will I actually notice a difference on a day to day basis?
I'm basically using this thing to stare at PDFs and start flame wars on the ot fwiw.

I've owned/used multiple Lenovos over the decades. Thinkpads are designed for business, and priced accordingly. They're easy for businesses to manage, and that's the only selling point. The Ideapad is what I actually used as a thin and light BYOD replacement for the 5.5 pound Thinkpad my ex-corp tried to get me to lug all over the world.
