why would you want to be 1st or 2nd in a gauntlet match? Wouldn't you want to be last one in?

I'm not 100% sure I know the rules of the AEW gauntlet match. Didn't they have a match for the #1 spot last week? Maybe if you lose, you're not in the match at all.
