I’ve been going to Logan Martin all year and it’s the best it’s been in over a decade. I’ve caught many over 4 lbs this year (spots and largemouth), which is pretty big for that lake.

My question….i have a camp on wheeler and about 3-4 years ago I was catching giant smallmouth and decent largemouth but I’ve been 3 times this year and it sucks. I know the TVA killed the grass a few years ago but it seems like the fish died with it. Anyone here fishing Wheeler/Wilson? Guntersville is on fire this year but the reports out of Wheeler are no bueno. Any tips? I have several shell bars located and some offshore brush and stump fields but all I’m catching is catfish.

Any help is appreciated.

My family has a place in Ohatchee which is part of the Coosa. Fishing has absolutely sucked lately. Did good on Crappie earlier this year, but the largemouth have been few and far between. But it has never been big bass water but the numbers I've personally seen are pretty terrible this year.

I fish Wheeler some with a buddy of mine. Haven’t been since March. Last time we were on Wheeler he caught a 6.5lb smallie and I caught a 4.5lber. Fish are still there… I’m pretty sure they had water levels down for longer than normal this yr to work on the damn. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

We primarily throw jigs on shell beds, and minnows/spinnerbaits along rip rap.

Have caught a few in the thick grass on main channel with chatterbaits and swim jigs.

I’ve been absolutely smashing the bass on the Coosa this year. Pre spawn they were biting a wacky rig. They were in the grass right after the spawn and were hitting a chatterbait, there was a great shad spawn and it lasted several weeks. That bite is dying off. Now they are mostly deep on humps. Here lately there are so many hybrids and stripes it’s hard to get to the spots and largemouth.
