Hoping someone has stayed at a couple of these properties and can help my choice! If anyone has been to one of them, please let me know your thoughts. Trying to maximize cc benefits too...

AMEX The Hotel Collection ($100 property credit, upgrade, and early/late check):
NH Collection Palacio de Tepa - I booked this with the $200 AMEX credit so I have it held for 2 nights and total $360 cash after that credit. I read good reviews about the NH, so maybe I'm overthinking it, but one review did mention small rooms if you don't get an upgrade (which I should). However, with this new Points Boost on Chase Edit properties there's some good deals at high-end properties.

Chase Edit Collection ($100 property credit, breakfast for 2, upgrade, and early/late check):
The Palace, Luxury Collection - 43,046 UR ($861 cash price)
Hotel Urban - 29,610 UR ($518 cash price)
Hyatt Gran Via - 32,180 UR ($644 cash price)

Thoughts? TIA

I assume you mean Palacio de los Duques Gran Melia. If so, I stayed there about a month ago and highly recommend it. Great hotel with fantastic service. Very walkable to many of the main attractions from there. It has a large inner courtyard where you can sit outside. There’s a bar downstairs and one on the roof as well (along with a small pool on the roof). If you can swing it, get a Red Level room. You get access to a lounge that has breakfast in the morning, tapas in the afternoon, and an open bar in the afternoon and evening, which is all included.

The Palace and the Hyatt both give you $0.02 CPP while the Hotel Urban is $0.017 CPP if that helps your calculations.

As far as the NH goes, we stayed in one in Brussels and enjoyed it but, it's summer in Europe, I wouldn't expect to get an upgrade just because of your AmEx. Top tier elites have a hard enough time getting them. I also booked that stay with my AmEx.

NH Collection Brussels Grand Sablon

EDIT: Also, when are you taking this trip? The Changes to the Chase Sapphire Reserve (assuming that's what you have) are boosting the hotel credit to $500 annually/$250 every 6 months.

No, it used to be the Westin Palace. It's now Luxury Collection under the Marriott branding.

yep I said the same to my wife and it does matter!

That definitely would sick not to. So far, I've only done 2 AMEX bookings and those were FHR and we did get upgraded both times. First time in a Hotel Collection property.

Those changes don't start for existing CSR members until Oct so I don't get them fir this Aug trip. But I still get the other benefits and the points boost is pretty decent on two of those.

Sounds like you're on top of this!

For you, I think it's going to come down to what you all want to do. I'm headed to Japan next week and staying at the Tokyo Hilton and Osaka Marriott. I want something nice enough but we'll be out and about most of the day. If you're spending a ton of time at the hotel, spring for something nice. Otherwise, I'd do the NH.

Haven't been to any of the hotels personally but I'd look at Thompson Madrid as well which I know is highly regarded and 25K Hyatt points which you can transfer from Chase.

Yeah that one is 21k points per night through the Hyatt app so we wouldn't get the Edit benefits. It's actually more points through the Edit booking so that's why I didn't call it out but it was one we were looking at.

No hotel recs, but go here and eat/have a beer.

Way better than San Miguel.

Although I did stay at this hotel and it was pretty sweet right next to Retiro Park.
