From Muttenstein thread on the movie board:

Documentary on Paramount Plus.

Just watched it this afternoon, great doc about a great song which has always been one of my favorites.

Really cool hearing Don go over the meaning and origin of the lyrics.

Especially the players trying to take the field representing the entire 60s counter culture and the marching band the military industrial complex.

quote:

Cause the players tried to take the field

The marching band refused to yield

I always kinda got the main meaning of that verse but had it backwards thinking the players would have been the powers that be and the marching band representing the protesters - thinking of typical high school social structures for the metaphor.

Somebodies lying - not to say it's you.
quote:

Don- That’s why I’ve never analyzed the lyrics to the song. They’re beyond analysis. They’re poetry.”
Of course people change and maybe he's singing a different (pleeze) song now. But at least now we know why it's eight and half minutes of leaving the room and not four. Because a good poet would have said so much more with that much time.

(ie: even a jam band know when to say when)

Really hate that song. It's poetry, but bad poetry that a highschool student would write.
