I live in Nola and bought some blackberry plants this year. Some type of insect appears to be eating the leaves and may be stunting the growth of all the plants. Anyone have any idea what it is or what I could do about it?

My guess is that snails and/or slugs are chewing on your leaves at night. You might catch them in the act if you inspect plants in the early dawn. They can be quite small... about 1/16th of an inch.

They spend the day somewhere wet and dark. Clear mulch back about a foot from the plants. Pick and kill any you find. You can also make traps with beer-filled plastic cups buried right up to their top. The yeast odor from the beer attracts them, and they drown.

I put out some beer traps and got 10-15 snails and slugs in them. And also applied some Sevin to the plants. Thank y’all for the suggestions!

Slugs. Put beer out in some shallow cups around the plants overnight and see if the cups are full of dead/drunk slugs in the morning. Like most of us, they love beer.

ETA: Slugs and snails hate pine needle mulch. They don't like crawling over it.
