Thanks!
Everybody melting about sandman’s shoes and they don’t realize how many run in glue ons and with their feet practically rebuilt out of epoxy.

... I think the issue is the extra pad they glued on also besides the shoe itself ...
Back in the day - the Tennessee Walker show circuit , farriers would stack pads and weights on the front hooves to increase the height of the front legs for a more dramatic extension of the front legs. It got a little out of hand
This led to restrictions and whatnot by our favorite animal group.

... and a little FYI ...
Hanton Horseshoes (the people who make those horseshoes) -- guess where the home office is?
Shelbyville, TN --- the capital of the Tennessee Walker empire

you left out the part about using chains and soring them with whatever irritant was handy to rub on their legs.
The "restrictions and whatnot" weren't unwarranted, regardless of who brought them about.

... I totally agree with you, the things I use to see would make you sick with grief ...
so if they are connected with anything concerning a horse's leg , I would not trust anything to be legit ...

They aren’t soring racehorses, I promise. They are much more likely to numb than sore. Look at Bobby b and his littlevswept under the rug lidocaine positives from a few years ago in Oaklawn. Nerve blocking to pass the morning jog.
Uhhhhh… I mean lidocaine patch on a trainers back
Grew up on the county fair circuit in eastern Kentucky so I’ve seen some things (though I didn’t ride walking horses). But like anything, not everyone is a bad actor. I spent a lot of time around flat shod gaited horses that were always treated wonderfully.
I do think the outcry over the glue ons is funny. A VERY high percentage run with glue ons.

I just saw your earlier response. They do not weight pads for racehorses. Ever seen a pair of racing plates? They want the shoe as light as possible. And upward motion is considered a bad mover and a waste of energy. This is actually hilarious.
My new farrier put leather pads on my horse to support his thin soles. Typical TB feet. They weight nothing. I don’t like them because mud is getting stuck under them, so they are coming off, but they in no way make him have more action. That is absolutely not a desired effect.

... talking about mud
do you think Pimlico will be a little sluggish for the Preakness this weekend?
I don't it see as sloppy like the Derby, but Maryland has been hit with a lot of rain this last week.
The humidity may not be as bad as in the past, that's the real problem there.

Small rain chance Thursday and Friday then sunny.
If nothing changes the track will be fast.

i think the favorite is vulnerable, i think he makes the big move, and is sucking it at the 1/16th, gasping for wire.
the euro horse makes zero sense, but also intrigues me.

That is good to hear --- fast track
Just hope a nice breeze keeps the humidity down

I just hope the 1 breaks bad, myself.
Stl, I like the euro to hit the board. I had a win bet on toast in that super close classic. Jamie is one of my favorite Twitter follows.
Apparently he bought another American dirt pedigree 2yr old this week over there.
Also, he’s pretty

There should be a fine for not racing the Derby winner in The Preakness, so lame.

Sometimes. He’s more than paid his bills so far
never worse than second.
You seem very testy for someone who doesn’t regularly participate here.

I’m done feeding that particular troll for now other than to say that into mischief babies are not sound and he probably needed his joints done again before racing and he can’t get that done with withdrawl times before Th e Preakness. Would you rather the derby winner snap his leg in half?
When you have a derby winner you can choose the path that is best for your horse. Deal?

... my apologies, the Preakness always makes me that way ...
my ol' stomping grounds ...
That and Delaware Park

Nah, don't want to see that but I do want to see an animal that is born and bred everyday of his life to run, run.
He's not going to snap his leg in half. Big Sovereignty fan but they don't think he can win on the shorter track.
