Who says he has to play the middle? Who says Vilma has to play the middle? Conventional thinking, which is the only thing Groundhog Day Gibbs was any good at, says a guy has to play a certain position a certain way. That is what losers do.

Yeah. On the other hand, winners spend first round draft picks on a guy and play him at a position that is not his best...or even better yet, spend top money in free agency to play a guy at a position that is not his strength.

Quality post.

Way to go MoneyG. Not only are you a f...img pig scalper you are an idiot. I'm guessing San Diego is pretty happy your dumb arse wasn't in control when they drafted Antonio Gates. Not only did they draft him out of position, but out of his best sport. As I recall, he was Mr. BASKETBALL in Ohio & helped lead Kent State to the elite 8 in BASKETBALL & didn't even play FOOTBALL in college. Go back to ticket exchange & see if you can rape somebody & get off the sports fans boards.

Laurenitis at WLB would be good IMO...we get beat by the run so many times on that side...a solid run stopper would be a good edition...at 14...im not sure, but if we can trade down to the 20's then I would take him!

Please inform the board what round Antonio Gates was drafted. TIA.

Ok you flaming frick stick. Ever hear of Brian Urlacher? Do you know what position he played in college? Do you know what round he was drafted in? The point is a versatile great football player can change from inside to outside or visa versa & not miss a beat. Why be such a prick? All anyone has to do is check out your previous posts to know you are nothing more than a shite stirring moron. Now go F... yourself.

That's the problem with a lot of message boards & rumor mills. I've heard everything from he's too small to he's too slow to he can't cover recievers to he's not physical enough & hasn't ade any behind the line tackles. The truth is he is 6'3", runs a 4.5 second forty, has like 11 interceptions, 16 sacks, over 40 tackles for losses, & forced 15 fumbles. This guy will be the best player on the board at 14 in a position we need a lot of help in. His ability to play the run & cover tight ends & running backs will alow our safeties ( which are also in need of upgrading) to be able to release back into deep iddle coverage earlier or blitz the quarterback causing more pressure & more mistakes to take advantage of.

My thoughts.

Laurinaitis makes tackles, but doesn't explode and make plays behind the LoS. In addition I'm not sure if he will be comfortable with the coverage duties of a NFL WLB.

Laurinaitis and his predecessor at OSU AJ Hawk are similar players with Hawk being the better version.

The problem is that he needs space to make plays...I;m not taking him at 14 unless he can make plays on his own! I know he is fast and strong, but needs D-linemen to keep him clear..we don't have that!

First of all A J Hawk is a pretty good player to be compared to. However there is a distinct difference between them that I believe makes this an incorrect statement. Laurinitis has performed at an exceptional level on a consistent basis for 3 years straight. He has won every major defensive award given in college football & some of them more than once. He has played through injuries at a high level & that can not be discounted when seeking an every down every game player. Considering the Packers were glad to spend a 5 pick on Hawk, one would think Laurinitis a steal at 14. He will be by far the biggest & most immediate impact player available at that point.

Sorry, but I disagree strongly with that statement. Defensive line is the one thing we do have on that side of the ball.

I agree Grid...I don't think that when the Pack looks back that they would be happy with him at 5 though...he has been solid, but not a top 5 pick! Can JL be better...yeah...but not a 14 pick...Pozluzny had the same credentials and he is the same player as JL...if I remember right he was picked by Buff around 20..maybe high teens?

I understand what you are saying. There are a couple of other things to throw into the mix though. First, I don't know what A J Hawk's wonderlick score is, but from listening to him speak he sounds like the prototypical "dumb jock". Laurinitis is a big ten all academic student. He was also a great hockey player coming out of high school & was projected to be a second to third round pick in the NHL. This means he is a very multifaceted athelete. Guys who can play more than one sport at that high of a level are almost always a success at the highest level of their chosen professional sport.

I know all the talking heads are jacked up about the guys from USC. I wanted to see what they would do tonight on a more level playing field & they pretty much performed the way I figured. I was disappointed in Matthews lack of speed against all star type players. Maualuga hits like a truck, but got caught up in way too much traffic & lacks range side to side. Cushing looked the best of the bunch, but has had injury problems & was run over on one of the plays I saw. I know it sounds like I'm all over this guys jock, but understanding Greg Williams philosophy, I am becoming more & more convinced JL will be our guy & just don't want to hear all the negative talk without some hard facts to back it up.

FWIW...I still think JL will have problems getting lost in traffic like Maualuga! USC's best LB is Chris Galipo anyway...he will be a mna!!

Well for you guys who think we STILL need another DL, Peria Jerry had one heck of a game tonight. This guy is the most dominant DL coming out of college & has been projected to go late in the 1st round, but after tonight, unless he gets caught having sex with a goat while snorting a line, he probably made about ten million dollars.

Jerry was one of the only DL that really beat LSU this year...I was way more impressed with him than Cody...looks like Jerry could actually play all 3 downs if needed...very valuable...only question I have with him is why all of a sudden does he become dominant...did he play himself into a 1st rounder and will tank the rest of his career(like a MLB slugger in his contract year) work ethic question?

And a damn good question it is. That is why I am so concerned about our pick this year. In reality we are a couple of difference makers away on defense to go along with some more atheletic ability. While we only need a couple of impact players, we have no room to make a mistake. This is the most important offseason for this team since the Saints 12-3 in 87' & we all know how they screwed that one up.
