My son is 11 and wants one for his bday. Truth be told, I honestly have no clue about them. Are there a bunch of different types? I see there’s a meta, a meta quest, and some other options I think… can someone tell me which one would be best for an 11 year old? FWIW he’s into sports games, racing games, and Fortnite and shite like that

This is all new to me. Sorry if this is a stupid question

The Meta Quest 3 $499.00 or the 3S $299. are the two newest versions of the Meta Quest line up. Its an all in one set up so you dont have to connect it to your PC. The 3S has less storage and the display isnt as good as the regular 3 but its $200.00 cheaper. So if your son is just dipping his toes into VR the 3S is probably the best option. He will probably want a better head strap as the one that comes with the systems is crap. and some games too so the money adds up fast.

I got the Quest 3 for my family last Christmas and it was a huge hit. Really fun piece of tech.

I agree with all of this. There are lots of accessories that you can waste money on… the upgraded strap is worth the money. There is also a silicone facial interface that we like since sweat doesn’t get absorbed into it.

It’s a fun system that has some really active games. My 9 year old sweats his butt off playing Gorilla Tag 24/7.

Unless you want your kid wasting away watching VR Porn all day, you can add passcodes to apps so that they can’t access them without your approval, such as social media and Internet Browsers.

This!

I got one and I couldn't play certain games because it made me horribly sick. Did some research and found that if you sit in a computer chair, one that swivels and rolls it helps alot and I don't get sick anymore.

Thank you everyone for the replies - we went with the 3S. Gonna give it to him Friday on his bday, should I open it and charge it/set it up for him or is it basically ready to go out of the box?? I just ordered him a case, charging dock, and strap for the headset. Any other accessories that I should consider? I saw they have the extra batter packs for the back of the headset, is that worth it? Also, I see they have speakers for it too, is that something I should consider? Sorry, this is all brand new to me

Also, can someone tell me about VR porn? Someone mentioned that.. Is that really a thing? I need to know how to access that so I can keep him away from it!!! Thank you

I would roll with what you have now and just see how he likes it. Some folks just cant do VR. I didnt think I would get over the motion sickness but after a few sessions I got used to it. Once he is good to go I would maybe consider some controller grips if yall get into some of the more active games. KIWI designs are good. The stock speakers arent bad. You can always connect other headphones. The best accessory I got was a BOBO VR M3 head strap (more like a contraption). Made everything much more comfortable for everyone to use. It comes with the battery pack.

There is a set up process. You can register the account in your name and have your son as user. Its not long and it will show you the basics of how to use it. One thing that will help is learn how to cast the image in the head set to your smart TV or phone so you can see what your son is doing and yall can instruct each other on how to use different apps or just to make the whole thing a bit more social. You may have to do a bit of Googling to figure out how to cast to your particular TV .

Yes and its pretty much available where ever you find other porn but only a few pay sites offer really crystal clear video. Its wild though. Make sure the headset is not in casting mode
