Have you heard this group of LA (CA) session players and guest vocalists recording covers with their own interpretation? Their channel has more current videos, but I found this one particularly compelling because of the changes in the chorus, the vocal trio, and the rhythm section—especially Larry Carlton’s son, Travis, on bass.

Here’s another favorite with bass legend Leland Sklar and his colleagues paying attention to the music rather than the show and keeping it in the pocket—then staying up all night to create this half hour funk jam.

that’s a great song I’d never heard of before. I like these all-star cover sessions a lot but it kind of makes me melancholy when you see what passes for quality original music these days. I kinda wish after they record these awesome covers with super talented players they’d…write and record a new song while they are there.

I'm not the biggest fan of Jack Conte's style, but he hangs out with tons of really talented musicians. He's always been a big Louis Cole fan, which I respect.
