The wife and I are ultimately traveling to Austin to catch a game of the lsu series in late March. Our two and a half year old will be in tow. We will begin our trip visiting friends in Rockwall on March 21st. I’m looking for restaurant and activity suggestions. Here’s my general timetable.

1. Rockwall Friday night
2. Saturday morning visit Lateral Limits gun shop in Garland
3. Fort Worth Stock yards Saturday morning/afternoon
4. Rangers spring game at Globe Life Saturday afternoon in Arlington
5. Drive to Austin Saturday evening
6. LSU game in Austin Sunday afternoon
7. San Antonio Riverwalk Sunday evening to Tuesday morning
8. Meat Church bbq shop in Waxahachie Tuesday morning
9. Drive back to Rockwall Tuesday morning to visit friends
10. Drive home Thursday - Fri morning

We are driving over from Birmingham. I plan to stop at Spillway wine and spirits either on the drive in or drive home. If we break up the drive home over two days is it worth staying an afternoon/evening in Vicksburg?

TIA for all recs and suggestions.

Rosa’s Cafe for inexpensive Mexican.
Taco Casa is a throwback to 80s Taco Bell.
Terry Black’s BBQ (Dallas or Austin).
Babe’s Chicken Dinner House (Garland).
Fortunately Son pizza (Downtown Garland)
Rodeo Goat or Snuffers for burgers (Rockwall)
Gloria’s Mexican and Salvadoranian.
Downtown Rockwall is really cute and has a lot to choose from.

You’re not going to be able to do everything you have set to do on Saturday and drive down to Austin. You’ll be miserably exhausted on Sunday. It’s a 90 min-2 hr drive from Rockwall to Ft Worth easily. Traffic on 30 around downtown Dallas is a nightmare any day of the week.

I’d suggest picking the Ranger’s game or the Stockyards but not both.

I had my concerns about that. It’s been at least ten years since I’ve been in the Dallas area.

Oh! Swing by a Buc-ee’s on your way back when you’re not as rushed to be somewhere.

Give yourself more time to get to Austin on 35. It always takes me an hour longer to get down there as I think it should.

Rockwall is very pretty as it’s right on Lake Ray Hubbard. It’s a cool place to hang out if you’d rather take it easy.

If you don’t already have game tix for the Rangers, the Dallas World Aquarium downtown is also a great option for the kiddo.

I can’t give you much for what’s in Rockwall, but you for sure aren’t doing all that on Saturday. As said, you’re at least 90 minutes from ft worth from there and probably an hour to downtown Dallas. Weather looks to be really nice next weekend so stockyards will be packed.

On Saturday, I’d just go to Texas live around the stadium instead of ft worth. Driving there and then 30 minutes back to Arlington and then back to rockwall, you’re just going to feel like you were on the road all day and didn’t get to do anything.

As for the days when you get back, again you’re probably an hour from downtown Dallas and may be closer to 2 getting back to rockwall in the evenings with traffic
