If I wanted to start up a basic set up to be able to DJ and mix music for parties or weddings, how much would that run me cost wise? I had some experience many years ago but everything has progressed since I did it then

Not sure on how much you should spend but this site it's pretty good for shopping around.
They have pretty good payment plans and lots of good equipment ranging from beginner to professional.

Assuming you already have a laptop that can run Serato or rekordbox:
$500 for a decent (starter) controller.
$500+ for decent (starter) PA.
Lights and that sort of stuff, the sky's the limit.
You also have to think about tracks and that ongoing cost for subscription services.
