Is it common or uncommon in today's climate to respond to a person seeking

employment - beyond we have received your application/resume', thank you?

We always responded and cited a reason not to consider for employment. Is the climate so fraught with litigation or lions, tigers, and bears or is there as absence of courtesies or simply seen as unnecessary?

I listen to others much, much younger than me and can't identify with such. Doesn't take much with today's technology to acknowledge one's interest.

You know, it's not hard to send an email to update a candidate. That includes sending a rejection as well.

Stringing along candidates looking for work, is a sick thing to do. Behind every resume, is a person that is looking for an opportunity.

Email's are free, send them out. Stop being a dick

Totally agree and would wager that those who don't like have higher turnover rates and hiring is an expensive proposition - pay me now or pay me later

I'm unsure if I would want to work for such an outfit

What if your reason for not selecting the candidate is entirely arbitrary? Then you open yourself up to a back and forth, and there are some people out there who cannot take a rejection.

Good question but wouldn't one style the position posting absent being arbitrary? For example, you hire someone who was less than forthcoming , the clarity can work on one's behalf

A recruiter told me I was down selected out of close to 500 applications for the position earlier this week.

With the ease with which you can almost SPAM apply to positions, it creates far more volume than can be responded to individually. USAJobs does a decent job of sending application updates (nothing detailed.)

a little ole HR rep won't send out a mass rejection email chain to those who apply to the role that HR opened up.

Pathetic.
