After an undefeated season. As a fan, what would you have enjoyed better?

A. A season where you had a high scoring, dynamic offense, but you had to sweat out each game hoping your ‘D’ could hold on
Or
B. A season in which you had a nasty, dominant defensive, but you had a ground and pound vanilla offensive hoping for that big play

Probably (B) as that style is more likely to lead to another title

We definitely saw (A) last year with Jayden Daniels. Fun to watch but only when we had the football. On the other side it was sheer misery. Imagine putting up over 600 yards of offense, and 49 points, and still losing the game... the agony of defeat.

Look at the 2003 Tigers under Saban for the unyielding defense, yet just an adequate offense led by Mauck (not a great quarterback, but he got the job done, plus we had a running back room second to none. In many cases that season the defense was the offense -- cf Oklahoma in the Nokia Sugar Bowl.

B.

I abhor weak defenses.

A. Purely from an entertainment standpoint.

had a good defense

That defense improved drastically after the tenth game of the season. It was porous against Bama, and even moreso vs Ole Miss giving up over 600 yards on the road. But the next five games-- Arkansas, A&M, Georgia, Oklahoma and Clemson-- it was Aranda, at the top of his game.

You have to have a down field passing game and a somewhat of a run threat and a defense that is just good enough

The defense was not that bad against Alabama. 80 yards and 7 points came on a fluke play and another 80 and 7 came on a stupid coverage. Alabama then got 7 more on a punt return. That Alabama team (when healthy) also had a top 5 offense in CFB history.

It was mediocre against Texas, but Todd Harris was starting instead of Kary/Jacoby.

Ole Miss was only really bad against Plumlee.

The defense was good otherwise. shut down OU and Hurts. Forced Lawrence to have his worst game of career. Jordan Love scored two field goals. Made a couple of huge stops against a very good UF team. UGA did nothing. People harp too much on the Vandy game (with two defensive touchdowns) and the Ole Miss game.
