D-III National Championship Game between two heavyweights.

Purple Raiders with an early forced turnover and TD drive.

Cardinals immediately respond to tie the game. This could be a barnburner.

One quarter in the books.

Mount's LG went down with an injury. Could be a big deal with how much they run the ball, but they're driving again.

Woof. Mount turns it over on downs in the redzone after the QB sails a pass over the head of an open WR.

North Central TD to take the lead. Looked like they got away with a hold or two on that drive, but the refs are letting them play.

I know it's D3, but Mount Union's history is ridiculous.

I had a student teacher in high school that played football at North Central

Mount zips back into the redzone, but the drive stalls when they put in the backup QB because he's the better runner.

Strange move, but they get the FG.

Yeah, regardless of division, the run they went on in the 90s and early 2000s was insane. They obliterated teams.

They were only slowed down when Whitewater emerged as a powerhouse.

Defenses are clamping down at the end of the half. Two straight 3-and-outs for the Cardinals.

The Mount is my hometown team. Go Purple Raiders. I went to several Stagg Bowls in Salem, VA.

Mount with an absolute clown show at the end of the half. Ran the ball inside the 10 yd line with 15 seconds left, and no timeouts.

Blew a chance for easy points when they are receiving the 2nd half kickoff.

They have remained a consistent playoff team, but nothing like they were. Their last national championship was a decade ago with Leipold, and I think they've only made it back to the Stagg Bowl once since.

If you run the ball in that situation it has to be quick and right at the defense with the field goal unit ready to run onto the field. Instead they ran a slow developing run to the outside with their statue of a qb. Spread the field and then qb run right at them.

My godfather is a Mount Union grad and attended every one of their Stagg Bowls in Salem. He loved it.

I'm actually surprised he's watching from home tonight. I was going to text him at halftime, but I reconsidered after that shitshow to end the half.

Missed FG by Mount Union.

Three redzone drives with zero points now. Ouch.

fun fact: Wisconsin Whitewater used to have an exchange program with Southern. May still have it for all I know.
