There are 30+ course you can get on within 1:30 minutes of Charlotte. Pretty much every price range - and almost all in good condition.
A few courses I enjoyed when I lived there:
Verdict Ridge
Eagle Chase
Tega Cay
Old Sycamore

Most will be 30-40 min outside of Charlotte proper as the nice country clubs take up the prime real estate close to town.
