Zach Top was sitting in the audience earlier and it will be a damn shame if he is not part of,this. Looks like, they went with Parker Mccollum

Did I miss a Toby Keith trubute?

They did a salute to,him from the stage with red solo cups, Laney, Payton and Luke Bryan. No performance of his songs or anything, A real shame it wasn’t a bigger part of,the show.

Ok Dierks Bentley with Molly Tuttle about to do some Petty. This might be worth a damn.

He seems to be on a similar trajectory to Stapleton maybe, He started in bluegrass and is moving into more mainstream, but I hope they let him keep, that 90s country vibe going,

I just wish they would have mics on the guitar and mandolin for Molly and Sierras solos, it didn’t cut through as well as i hoped but it was still very good. Overall I was hoping we would see the CMAs moving in a more traditional direction. It seems Nashville is trying to promote a further move towards pop with Post Malone and Jellyroll having multiple performances.

yep, it was disappointing for sure, I have been listening to Zac Top and Randall King a bunch over the summer. I am hoping we get a revival similar to the 80s when Ricky Skaggs, Dwight Yoakam and Vince Gill reset the style.

I've always considered Tom Petty to be pure Southern Rock with a punkish edge. So I think they needed to keep that edge in that tribute. It all fit together to me pretty well.
Tom Petty is an influence that belongs in country music, much more so than some other things they are trying to push.
I'm also open to roots type R&B and Soul Influences among other roots genres.
I just hate the auto tune crap that leans towards hip hop sounding crap.

Well Nashville seems to be pushing the latter right now, but someone smart will realize that things run in cycles. It’s beyond time that it turns back to a more traditional sound.

I just watched the Luke Combs video from the awards. Is he just lip syncing or is auto tune just making him sound identical to the recorded version of the song? Nothing about his vocals seemed "live" to me.
