Somewhere between 10 to 12k possible ballots out there. Need a hard break for him to get to 50% and keep rank choice from kicking in.

No because, the winner didn't get 50% plus 1. Now, it goes to that ridiculous ranked choice nonsense.

DDHQ already projecting Begich.

Howe is an Alaskan Independence guy. Hard to imagine his votes going to Peltola.

It's done. Nick has been given the go to set up his transition team and move forward.

Mary is kaput.

Closer than I thought it would be. Is the Dem candidate good or is Alaska moving left? Or what’s up with it being an actually close race? I know the Dem is the incumbent but thought that’s from weird ranked choice voting stuff last election

Shes native (or part native) and the DNC spent a lot advertising for her. She also had some of Don Youngs former people behind her.

Alaska is roughly 16% native, thats a pretty sizeable bloc.

No problem.

Add to it her Husband was killed in a plane crash a year ago, so she had some of the sympathy factor (yes it exists..lol)

Nick Begich is a relative unknown, despite his name. So he had the incumbent factor to overcome as well.
